Urban renewal of a part of an old railroad tracks Užice – Sarajevo, or Šargan railroad, dating back to 1925. where popular Ćira was operating for half a century, through the existing infrastructure with a path that goes through amazingly picturesque landscapes, following the narrow gorge of Đetinja river.
Its revitalization presents a track of old railroad enriched with accompanying program. The track covers 13km from Town beach to Vrutci, and a series of attractions along the way – 12 tunnels, 5 bridges, Large dam with its lake, rapids, Kotlovi, dam and Vrutci lake. It is of an immense importance for the town, but even broader – it is intended for everyday usage of Užice citizens, as well as seasonal usage, organizing thematic competitions, and tourism.
Purpose: cycling, walking, roller-skating, running, jogging, alpinism, bathing, fishing, canoeing, enjoying the nature and its landscapes …
Design approach is in the improvement of the existing – refurbishing the track, the coating of the tunnels, the revival of the bridges, lights, colors, materials, and through establishment of the relation between the new towards the existing. The revival of the old path with new contents represents a supplement to the track itself through the creation of a network of typical service stations: information boxes, rest areas, covers, shelters, signals, benches, fountains with drinking water. The idea of revival is also realized through planning of the network of special purpose buildings by choosing attractive spots and their corresponding themes: clubs, camps, bathing areas, climbing areas, cafes, wellness, resting houses, fishermen’s houses, tea drinking house…
